Krabi is on the mainland, which is the entire argument for a road trip from Krabi in the first place. There is no ring road to loop and no ferry to time a departure around. Point the car and the province keeps going past the coast.
North to Khao Sok National Park
roughly 2.5 to 3 hours
Rainforest and a lake, a genuinely different landscape from anything on the coast, and the one route here worth calling a proper expedition.
West to Phang Nga

Karst bay country, with limestone lining the road for most of the drive.
South to Trang

A quieter province with its own coastline, and a town that does not run on tourism.

Highway 4 first, then the rainforest closing in as the Khao Sok road turns inland.
One inland loop, mapped hour by hour
The easiest of the four routes, and the one you can still start after a slow morning. Here is roughly how the day actually runs.
8:00 am
Leave Krabi Town on the inland road southeast. Coffee happens in the car rather than at a sit-down stop, since the road out is the easy part of the day.
9:00 am
Reach the Emerald Pool. Early is deliberate: both the car park and the boardwalk fill up within about an hour of this.
10:30 am
Walk down to the Khlong Thom hot springs, a short drive further along the same road, for the slower half of the morning.
12:30 pm
Lunch in Khlong Thom town rather than at a stop built for the loop road. Noticeably cheaper, and just as good.
2:00 pm
Back on the road to Krabi Town, with the afternoon still free for Tiger Cave Temple, or simply parking up for the rest of the day.
Deciding which road to take, and when to leave
The four routes are not interchangeable in how they use a day. This is the short version of how to pick.
Match the drive to the day
Khao Sok is a full day whichever way you cut it, so start early if you are doing it there and back in one go. Phang Nga and Trang are comfortable half-day-out, half-day-back trips. The inland loop to the Emerald Pool fits inside one ordinary morning and afternoon.
Fill up before you leave town
Highway 4 has fuel stations at regular intervals and most take a card as well as cash, but the side roads off it thin out fast. Top up in Krabi Town or Ao Nang before you turn off, not once you are already on the loop road.
Build in slack for the way back
Give the return leg more time than the outward one. Thailand drives on the left, you may be doing it later in the day than planned, and an unfamiliar road always takes longer the second time you underestimate it.

Khao Sok, from Krabi Town
About 2.5 to 3 hours, mostly on Highway 4 before the road turns inland into rainforest. This is the one route here worth budgeting a full day for, or better, a night at the lake if the schedule allows it. The scenery shifts hard: limestone and rubber plantation give way to actual rainforest canopy, which nothing on the coast prepares you for.
Phang Nga, from Krabi Town
About 1.5 to 2 hours, and karst country starts appearing well before you arrive. The road itself runs through the same limestone the bay is known for. A reasonable half-day-out trip if you leave by mid morning, with daylight left to be back in Krabi for dinner.
Trang, from Krabi Town
About 2 hours south on ordinary roads, into a province that does not run on a tourist calendar the way the coast does. Its own coastline and a town with its own economy, which is reason enough for a day out even without one specific sight in mind.
The inland loop, from Krabi Town
About an hour out to the Emerald Pool and the Khlong Thom hot springs, comfortably inside one day with time left over. The obvious pick if a full road trip is not on the schedule this week but the car should still earn its keep.
